Public Engagement

Glasgow Science Festival 2024

Glasgow Science Festival (GSF) returns for its 18th year, celebrating how research is transforming our lives, our cities, and our futures. GSF has over 150+ events spread across 40+ venues across the City of Glasgow, Scotland, UK.  

As a part of Centre for Neurotechnology (CfN), on 9th and 10th Jun 2024 at Glasgow Science Centre, I will be engaging with the general public of all ages to demonstrate  Electroencephalography (EEG) based NeuroFeedBack (NFB) on volunteers who would wear a EEG headband and control their brain rhythm with a real-time visual feedback. This is an exciting application of Brain Computer Interface (BCI).

Explorathon Extravaganza 2023

As a member of Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (CCNi) team, on 16th and 17th Sep 2023 at Advanced Research Centre, I will be interacting with the general public of all ages to discuss about the "Biases and Guesses: The way our brains work" that dealt with how our expectations shape our perceptions with examples in auditory bi-stable perception (Green Needle vs Brain Storm), visual bi-stable perception, colour perception (#TheDress), selection attention, McGurk effect, Kanizsa illusions, hollow mask Illusion., etc.

STEM for Britain 2021

On March 1st 2021, I presented my work to the Houses of UK Parliament as a finalist of the STEM for Britain contest. My work entitled "A monkey model of auditory scene analysis: How does the brain solve the 'cocktail party problem'?" was presented in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences category.

Three Minute Thesis 2019

On June 5th 2019, I presented my PhD thesis in 3 minutes to the general public at Great North Museum: Hancock. This was as a part of 3MT - Three Minute Thesis contest from Newcastle University where I was a finalist of 2019 edition.

Events I organized

Student Professional Awareness Conference

As conference chair, I organised a national level "Students Professional Awareness Conference" (S-PAC) on creating professional awareness and management skills among upcoming engineers. This conference was the first of its kind in India, and was held on Sunday, the 19th of December, 2004.

In S-PAC renowned speakers are invited to address several topics such as career growth, working, professional responsibility and self management, which are of utmost importance to the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. The speakers for our S-PAC include:

The event was a purely non-profit venture, and was funded in part by the IEEE-USA parent body and in part through registration and sponsorship. About 200 student delegates participated in this conference.

Student Professional Awareness Venture 

As conference overall coordinator, I organised a national level Student Professional Awareness Venture (SPAVe conference) on 17th September 2005, at NITT on creating professional awareness and management skills among upcoming engineers.

SPAVe, a sequel to SPAC, was primarily aimed at imparting management skills among engineers. The goal of this conference was to provide delegates with skills outside the confines of their engineering education. Renowned speakers are invited to address several topics such as career growth, working, professional responsibility and self management, which are of utmost importance to the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. In all, around 200 delegates from various institutions attended the conference and made it a success.

Pragyan - Technical Festival of NITT

As the event manager, I organised Guest Lectures for 'Pragyan' - An annual international technical festival of National Institute of Technology Trichy (NITT) - during my undergraduate days.
